LARCAS SIBERIAN HUSKIES

In early 1992 my partner Ann and I decided we would like a dog. .Ann had spotted this beautiful dog in our area and insisted I see it, after which the search was on for a Siberian husky. Where do you buy a Siberian husky in the middle of England? A friend of mine spotted a strange cart which he thought was something to do with huskies, so we knocked on the door of this strangers house. She had been involved in the breed for some 25 years all over the world and so she directed us to our first pup.

Kassie arrived in August 1992 and was a whirlwind of destruction. One rainy November night I got a call from the lady we had met asking if I knew anything about brakes as they had a race the following day and could not fix their brakes - so I went around and sorted them out for her. She asked me to try out the brakes with two of her dogs -little did I know the pains in my hands while running around the forest may not have been from the cold but the bug of this addictive sport biting deeply into me.

We started racing and showing Siberian huskies in 1992, borrowing dogs and equipment to race. I brought Yenka, husky number two, in August 1993 and was then on my way to my own team! I won the best newcomer to the event held in the New Forest and won the absolute beginner award in 1993 and decided to up my team number.

We decided in 1996 that showing was not for us because neither we or the dogs really enjoyed it although we won best of breed at Cheshire county show under Lyn Hall, Breed Specialist, with Foggy that year. We thought the racing was more our thing.

We've had some good successes through the years race-wise, but the major prizes seemed to elude us always; always in the top 5, but not quite getting the first place.
In 2003 we bred our first litter which has proven very successful on the race scene. Over the years have tried many of the big food brand names which we were fairly happy with but now up to 10 dogs price has to be considered. In 2003 we had a good year achieving seconds and thirds at all races entered, with one win. In 2004 we had a phone call from J.M.International about Franks Pro Gold, so we gave it a try .

The 2004 season got of to a great start winning the New Forest event. We then came in first again at Sherwood Pines, Nottingham with a second place at Fineshades, Northampton on the first day followed by a fourth at Clipstone, Nottingham. We then travelled to Kings Forest, Thetford and pulled in another first place . We raised our second litter of pups in 2004 on Frank's Puppy Food and our 8 month old that we kept is already leading our second team in training and is showing great promise. We are so pleased with the results that Frank's gives and not just race results. The dogs are in outstanding condition and love their food. At the price I think pro gold is incredibly good value for a top quality food.
